Honestly a bit disappointed after all the buildup it's gotten in the reviews. We couldn't sit inside the first time we came by, and it was cold and windy outside. We made reservations for another day and sat inside. It's a small room, with nothing to dampen echos or absorb sound. Four hard walls, mirrors, windows, tables, floor, ceiling, and even only half full it was deafening. I have a paralysed vocal cord so I can't speak extra loud, but normally it's fine. We couldn't hear each other across the corner of the table without leaning in. Some rugs, tapestries, and curtains would probably help a lot with the volume. I don't know how the people who work there take it all day. We both had pancakes, which were good, but rather dry. No margarine or anything. Just the toppings. Chips were nice. The vegan sausages were awful. Like wet paper in both internal consistency and flavor. We've had some really good vegan sausages elsewhere, so I don't know what kind they use that are that bland. Not huge fans, I'm sorry to say, and I'm pretty forgiving if you look at my other reviews.

Fantastic breakfast. Only issue was the tomato wasn't nice (more of a cooking or salad tomato) and beans were plain. But this is tiny details. Was a fantastic scenic brunch. Thank you guys

Playwrights Cafe is a lovely find. Fantastic menu and delicious food! Outside and indoor seating. I went on a Sunday and it was quite busy surprisingly. Definitely would recommend a visit to anyone up by the Canal Basin.

I would thoroughly recommend the Playwrights cafe afternoon tea. We had the plant based and normal versions and both were delicious. The staff were really attentive and helpful. I would definitely go back for either this or something off the main menu. It’s a hidden gem of a place and I bet it would be lovely to sit out in the warm weather.

Thr food is more of the traditional caffe style but with an updated decor and setting. Food came out really fast, quick service, nice to sit by the water, coffee was really good. Prices were more than reasonable. Brunch options seemed a little more on the lunch side but was ok. A lot of different options despite their small kitchen. Staff were attentive and very friendly and accommodating, even for the dog without even asking. My only wish is that perhaps they'd be able to make a way so that you don't have to go through the kitchen to access the loo.
